FEBRUARY 2, 2019
One of the greatest things about Canada is that it is home to so many different people from different cultures. This trip invites those who celebrate Lunar New Year and those who want to - to come together in the outdoors in honour of this holiday! Lunar New Year has so many rich traditions. It is known also as the Spring Festival, signifies newness, and is a time to sweep away the old to get ready for incoming abundance. Parkbus is excited to host this ActiveDays trip in partnership with Mountain Equipment Co-op, BC Parks Foundation and Mosaic BC.
Your hike will be guided by Dr. Melissa Lem, from the Canadian Association of Physicians for the Environment and Jennie McCaffrey, from the BC Parks Foundation. This hike is open to families! THIS WALK SHOULD BE GREAT FOR 3 & UP. FOR UNDER 3'S YOU MAY WALK TO BRING A BABY CARRIER/BACKPACK. (Strollers are not an option for this trail)
There will be food options available at the end of the trail at Hollyburn Lodge.

HOW TO DRESS?

- Warm socks (even 2 pairs!)
- Bottom layer of long underwear or a long sleeve top (wool is great but not mandatory)
- Second Layer pants and a warm sweater
- Top Layer: Winter jacket, snow pants
- Accessories: winter hat, mitts, scarf
*** NOTE: The trails time of year can be extra slippery. You may wish, for extra precaution, to rent or purchase ski poles or spikes to wear on the outside of your shoes! In any case please walk carefully and at a pace that feels safe for you! ***
Parkbus riders receive a 50% discount on rentals at MEC. If you're renting something for the day follow this link for a discount!
See graphics at the bottom of the page for what our friends at MEC suggest wearing in the winter.
WHAT TO BRING
Lunch- Lunch is NOT provided. If you can, bring something warm- this helps a lot in staying warm on a cold day.
A Warm Drink (optional but having something warm in a thermos to enjoy by the fire would be so nice)
Winter boots!
Water (at least 1.5L)
Medications
Weather appropriate clothing- Layer up!- wool is great as a middle layer as it helps wick water away from the body and keep you warm!

Whatever else you need to have fun on the trail :)
WHAT TO EXPECT WITH ACTIVEDAYS
To us, facilitating this event is about creating an environment that you can engage with in your own way. This is your experience and everyone has their own relationship with the outdoors and their bodies. We want to meet you where you are at — you can take part in the hike as casually or focused as you would like.
Active Days is also a community. This is an inclusive space to meet new people, share stories and have fun! To us, there is no better place to get to know someone than the outdoors. We all share a desire to get out, explore and move.
ActiveDays is made possible with the support of our partners Mountain Equipment Coop.
